44 miles/1 hour = x miles/2 hours

To solve this, we are going to use cross products, or the multiplication of the numerator of one fraction times the denominator of the other fraction, setting them equal to one another.

44 (2) = x

When we simplify this, we get 

88 = x

Therefore, the distance between the two towns is 88 miles.
