The remaining G3P molecules are converted into ribulose 1.5 bophosphate (RuBP), a five-carbon sugar that combines with CO2 in the first stage. The reaction is sped up by RuBP carboxylase (rubisco), an enzyme that catalyzes the combination of CO2 and RuBP.
