You can square root both sides like so:
[tex] \sqrt{81} = \sqrt{ {x}^{4} } [/tex]
which will due to exponent property, divides the 4 by 2, getting you
[tex]9 = {x}^{2} [/tex]
. This can then be easily solved by square rooting both sides again, which will result in x=3
