The thinking skills of historians can be divided into three main processes: asking questions, gathering information, and drawing conclusions.  The third one is gathering information.

Gathering information helps historians to tackle complex tasks that would be really hard to accomplish and otherwise quite impossible to achieve if there is no properly gathered information.
