Dolphus likes black people and spends a lot of time around them, which is frowned upon in Alabama in this timeline. He pretends he is drunk so people will not question him and just blow it off on him being drunk and that him sober doesn’t actually like black people. Scout thinks he is an evil man for faking being drunk (he actually just drinks Coke in a paper bag).
