The statement that carcinogen  is a cancer-causing substance is true. The term denotes is any substance or agent (chemical substances, viruses, or even medications and radiation therapies used to treat cancer) that causes cancer.  The carcinogens directly damage the DNA in cell which leads to mutation or  cause cells to divide at a faster rate than normal.
