You changed into improper fraction which is mixed number

Well, you would give the fractions common denominators, so 2 1/4 and 1 2/4. Then change them into improper fractions, 9/4 and 6/4. Then multiply the numerators then denominators to get a final improper fraction. You the turn that into a mixed number.
