The base length is 5.5 cm.

Explanation:

Area of triangle = base x height x 1/2

Let b cm be the base length of the triangular flag.

22 = b x 8 x 1/2

22 x 2 ÷ 8 = b

b = 44 ÷ 8

b = 5.5
