What happened during the Battle of Coral Sea and why was it important?

  • It showed Japan could be stopped (if not tactically beaten) at sea--their navy was formidable and arguably superior.
  • It protected Australia from threat of imminent land invasion.... I still think it was a mistake for Japan to not invade Australia.
  • It knocked two big carriers out of the Battle of Midway-2 months later--making that fight win
