Answer: Laurier had already developed a reputation after 13 and a half years. He was now a well-known politician who was recognized for commanding the Liberal Party's chapter in Quebec, for standing out for the rights of French Canadians, and for being a passionate speaker in parliament. He was also known for being a superb orator.
