when 500 grams of ice at -2 °C is placed in 1000 grams of liquid water at 4 °C.  the final temperature is 10 °C.

The specific heat capacity expression is given as :

Q = mc ΔT

the heat lost = the heat gained

mc ΔT = mc ΔT

500 × ( T + 2 ) = 1000 × ( T- 4)

500 T + 1000 = 1000 T - 4000

500 T = 5000

T = 10 °C

Thus, when 500 grams of ice at -2 °C is placed in 1000 grams of liquid water at 4 °C.  the final temperature is 10 °C.
