How are mutations essential to evolution?

So a change in an organism's DNA can cause changes in all aspects of its life. Mutations are essential to evolution; they are the raw material of genetic variation. Without mutation, evolution could not occur.

personally I don't believe in evolution,but according to the theory micro evolution (which i do believe does occur)  or slight mutations happening again and again to eventually cause a large change otherwise known as evolution
