together, steve and tom sold 96 raffle tickets for their school. steve sold 16 more than three times as many raffle tickets as tom. how many tickets did each boy sell?

You would divide 96 by 3 (32) , then subtract 16 (16). That leaves you with Tom's total. Subtract that from 96 and you will find Steve's total. : )
