At
first, Gilgamesh is able to confront Humbaba face to face because of the help
of Shamash. Shamash unleashes thirteen storms against Humbaba upon the request
of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh was able to overtake Humbaba because of the divine
onslaught of Shamash.
