These two sequences were the Sauk sequence and the Tippecanoe sequence. The Sauk sequence was the earliest of six cratonic sequences that occurred during the Phanerozoic in North America. The Tippecanoe sequence followed after the Sauk sequence. The sea deposited sedimentary rocks, and wave-washed sands, mud, and carbonates were deposited in the shallow epicontinental seas.
