Why would a single celled organism evolve to be multi-celled?

Because a single celled organism is not as adapted to the tasks at hand and is not as effective as a multi-celled organism. Having a multi-celled organism, specific cells in his body can perform specific tasks which grant him a faster exeuction time of these tasks as opposed to a single-celled organism.
