A trapezoid shown below has an area of 21.66 square inches. What is the total area of the shaded sections of the trapezoid?

The trapezoid is shown in the picture attached.

Note that the two shaded areas are two triangles rectangle with legs 1.1 in and 3.8 in.

The area of a triangle rectangle can be found by the formula:
A = L × l ÷ 2
   = 3.8 × 1.1 ÷ 2
   = 2.09 in²

Since the area is composed by two identical triangles, the total shaded area will be:
A = 2.09 × 2 = 4.18 in²

Therefore, the correct answer is B) 4.18 square inches
