Potential energy is energy stored in an object due to position or size; like a bowling ball on a ramp. Kinetic energy is the energy acquired or lost while the object is in motion. This would happen as the ball rolls down the ramp. Inertia, an object's tendency to resist a force, can be observed as a car brakes, still sliding forward a little because of the momentum.
